With the last winter days coming to an end, John Rusch (Blessin’/Moonbather drummer) brings us his fun and quirky yet sometimes serious catalog of songs that will hook you in, sit you down, and make you listen.
When and where did you record your EPs?
progressively over last summer for milkwalker and in december/january for reposed in my room/unt music practice buildings
I know some people call your house the ‘Fryternity’ house, where does the name come from?
it comes from the fact that the house is on fry st, but it is also because we will be friends for eternity
How can someone go about joining?
in my mind by being friendly, with that being said i think it’s important to note that “fryternity” is just a playful change-up to refer to a place and not necessarily representative of a deliberate “brotherhood” or anything
What is your writing process like?
usually I’ll record or program something on guitar/computer that is satisfactory and desires completion and I will do that
Something about your songs is that they give off a feeling of honesty. What influenced these songs?
i’ll say that for a lot of them i tried to make songs i would like and let them develop as naturally possible. Some were influenced by the need to rectify my emotions and externalize them somehow because I had been luring myself into feeling pretty negative about certain issues.
Also do you have a dog?-big dog feat mutt sounds like you dream of having a bestfriend.
I had a dog growing up, and yes certainly looking for a cute animal friend who I can be very close with
What song on ‘reposed’ means the most to you?
the song “reposed” probably means the most to me
Which song did you have the most fun recording?
"magicmountain" was the most fun to record because it was the first time I’ve recorded saxophone and overall it is pretty different than what I’ve done in the past.
I know you emailed Nathan’s Hot dogs, any word on that?
Nathan’s famous hot dogs has yet to get back to me, however hillshire farms brand sent me a sterile-sounding email saying they liked my song.

If postcards could speak, they would tell you they have never seen the places they depict. “It’s just a tattoo on my back.” You feel uncomfortable. The postcard is just spewing out the absolute truth of its life, but you feel uncomfortable. Hundreds of thousands of pictures of places and events that it’s never seen, and that you’ve never seen. And you begin to realize that postcards, in general, are just reminders of places you haven’t been.
If loneliness had a sound it would be this EP. “Germany” was release 2 years ago by a little tape label called ‘Warm Gospel Tapes’

Look out for this band everybody!

What else do you want?
John Rusch (Blessin’/Moonbather drummer) just released a 7 song EP with tracks that range from the very cartoonie “hotdogtown” to his beautiful piano/guitar atmospheric ballad “downnow” to title track “reposed” which is absolutely fucking great. Every second of this album is a treat, don’t sit on it.-D
